Our Bands


The TJHSST band program represents an exceptional, award-winning combination of educational, artistic, and competitive band activities, both curricular and extra-curricular, for the TJHSST student.


Curricular Bands

Classes offered during the regularly scheduled school day are:

  • Concert Band (Intermediate I Band) is for beginning or intermediate level musicians. This class prepare student musicians for the advanced level.
  • Symphonic Band (Intermediate II Band) is for more advanced student musicians.
  • Symphonic Wind Ensemble (Advanced Band) is for TJÕs most advanced band.
  • Jazz I is TJÕs award winning curricular jazz ensemble. Students study jazz theory and improvisation.

Extra-Curricular Bands

Band activities which take place outside the school day are:

The Thomas Jefferson Marching Colonials (TJMC) :

TJ's award winning marching band rehearses and performs from July through November. TJMC competes in marching competitions throughout Fall season and entertains at home varsity football games.

Pep Band:

TJ's Pep Band travels to away football games to cheer on the Colonials football team. Pep band is open to all TJ student musicians.

Jazz Band II:

Our extra curricular Jazz ensemble is open to any TJ student musician. Jazz II is held during the 8th period activity time at TJ and performs at the spring band concert and the Jazz Caberet in the late spring.

Winter Guard:

Our indoor performance group that showcases our flag and weapons talent. Winter guard rehearses and competitively performs December through May. Winter guard is open to all TJ students.

Winter Drum Line:

Our indoor percussion ensemble consisting of a marching battery and a stationary pit. Winter drum line rehearses and competitively performs December through May. Winter drum line is open to all TJ students.
